Unit Purpose
On completion of this unit, you will have skills and knowledge required to maintain a safe work environment for staff, customers and others.
The student result is based on the evidence provided to meet the criteria for
competence as specified in the unit of competency.

The result AC or NC is entered in CLAMS representing Competent or Not yet
Competent respectively.

Observe basic safety procedures.
1. Follow and maintain safety procedures to achieve a safe work environment according to all relevant OHS legislation, including codes of practice, relating to particular hazards in the industry or workplace.
2. Identify and report unsafe working practices, including faulty plant and equipment according to store policy and procedures.
3. Manage dangerous goods and substances according to store policy and relevant legislation.
4. Identify potential manual handling risks and manage tasks according to store policy.
5. Report work-related incidents and accidents to designated personnel.
6. Demonstrate consultative processes and follow procedures for OHS.

Observe basic emergency procedures.
1. Follow fire and emergency procedures, including store evacuation, according to store policy and legislation.
2. Identify designated personnel responsible for first aid and evacuation procedures.
3. Accurately identify safety alarms.


Session - Accidents at Work

  • Read through the powerpoint and answer the questions in the powerpoint.
  • When you are finished the notes complete a service requisition form to get the broken fan fixed (or similar )
  • Access an accident /incident form and complete the details for an accident in the workplace- customer or staff member.
  • When you have finished all these activities add them to your portfolio for your teacher PLUS do the assessment sheet below where you complete the procedure for the customer's accident.
